Severn Estuary Partnership are looking for volunteers to help two citizen science initiatives happening across the Gwent Levels area.
Otters
Get in touch if you would like to help survey for otters this September-November in the Severn Estuary European Marine Site area (an area that spans from Monmouthshire to the Vale of Glamorgan).
We are running a new otter survey alongside the National Otter Survey of Wales with a focus on coastal sites. This is to help direct the management of marine and costal sites for otters.
We are looking for volunteers to help us find and record signs of otters on or near the coast. No previous experience needed, full training will be given.
The amount of time needed to carry out each survey is very short, and hopefully you can incorporate surveys into your usual local walks. One survey needs to be done at each site per month.
Water Quality
We also have a project looking at water quality where volunteers will be taking water samples and looking for signs of pollution. This will be occurring in November and December. This project will be taking place across the Gwent Levels area. No previous experience needed, full training will be given.
If you would like to volunteer for these projects please contact me at:
Katie Havard-Smith havard-smithk@cardiff.ac.uk
Please note whether you would like to volunteer with otters, water quality or both.
Set up in 1995, the Severn Estuary Partnership is an independent, estuary-wide non-statutory initiative led by local authorities and statutory agencies, hosted by Cardiff University.
