BBC Countryfile

Exciting Announcement: BBC Countryfile will be producing an entire episode on the Gwent Levels to be aired on St Davids Day 1st March 2020.

The episode will tell you all about the Living Levels programme and the unique landscape of the Gwent Levels from its reclamation from the sea, to the reens, ditches and grips network that keep the land dry and watercourses full of wildlife.

The episode will focus on Living Levels work restoring the ditches and traditional methods used such as ‘drashing’ in Duffryn. You’ll get a glimpse of how Prof. Martin Bell records the prehistoric foreshore archaeology at Goldcliff with several remarkable discoveries.

Presenters Matt Baker and Ellie Harrison helped weave our willow ‘brinker’ sculpture at Magor Marsh, with artists Sarah Hatton and Mel Bastier, part of our ‘People of the Landscape’ trail.

The episode will also be featuring the iconic Black Rock Lave net fisherman, our partners Gwent Wildlife Trusts’ Magor Marsh reserve water vole reintroduction and volunteer groups, and well-being litter-picking along the Wales Coastal path by the Newport Transporter Bridge.

Tune in on 1st March St David’s Day to discover the amazing heritage, wildlife, landscape, and people of the Gwent Levels.
