The Roman Origins of Our Christmas and its Customs

Mark Lewis, from the National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon, will explore the rich history and archaeology of Christmas on the Gwent Levels and elsewhere.

Why was Christmas effectively banned in 1644?

Why is Christmas celebrated on the 25th December and why was this date highly significant in Roman times and earlier?

This talk will seek to explore these and other Christmas-related questions at this particularly festive time of year.

This talk will be delivered via Zoom so please make sure you have the most up to date version.
