Wintering Birds on the Levels Coast

This 6km walk will follow the Wales Coastal Path, taking us along the Gwent Coast from St. Brides Wentlooge to Peterstone Gout and back.

The event is timed to coincide with high tide so that the wealth of wintering waders and wildfowl that abound in the Severn Estuary will be pushed up closer to the sea wall and much easier to see. Last year saw spectacular swirling flocks of waders and many species of duck congregating in The Gout, we hope for a repeat performance.

It is on a winters day and on potentially muddy paths so please wrap up warm and be mindful of the possible need for waterproofs and wellies. The walk is flat but there may be stiles that need climbing. We would recommend bringing snacks to keep you fuelled, binoculars and a bird field guide.

Carpark costs £2, this can be refunded if buying food/drinks from the Lighthouse Inn afterwards.

Meet at: Lighthouse Inn, Beach Rd, Newport NP10 8SH

Cost: £8 for Gwent Wildlife Trust members £10 for non-members

Booking essential: The event is limited to 15 participants, dogs are not allowed.
