Love history? Join archaeologists starting a brand new search for historic sites on the Gwent Levels.
This outdoors event is part of a series of workshops where archaeologists and local history-lovers work together to locate, investigate and identify historic sites on the Levels' landscape. Together, we're aiming to create an online map showcasing the area's extraordinary history.
Using 3D LiDAR (laser) models and digital maps (GIS - Geographic Information Systems), we’ll show you how to spot areas of historical significance on the landscape and figure out what they are. You’ll learn how archaeologists search for sites in the landscape, and try finding some for yourself.
But it doesn’t stop there…
In this workshop, we'll actually head out into the field to get a first-hand look at historical features in the landscape. There's much more to discover when you combine desk based research with real life, on the ground investigation
Please note:
Part of this workshop takes place outdoors – and will run rain or shine. If attending, please make sure you bring weather- appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear.
