Make sense of Maps! (Part 1)

An introduction to maps and map-work assuming no previous map knowledge (focusing on the ordinance survey 1:25000 scale).

Aimed at encouraging the use of maps for walking in the countryside, and gaining confidence in all aspects of map interpretation and use.

Predominantly classroom based, but with some outside activity to illustrate the material discussed.

A course for up to 10 people, on map work and navigation:

  1. Understanding the map.

  2. Interpreting the map features and how we can use them while navigating.

  3. Setting the map, adopting good techniques for establishing position, maintaining position and checking position.

No previous knowledge required!.
